Visit by Author Olive Mooney, 14th November 2018

We had the pleasure of welcoming Olive Mooney to our school last week.

Olive has written two books in the series ‘The Chronicles of Cadaver College’ and read a selection of excerpts for the children.

She gave an insightful account of her life as an author, the hard work it takes to write a book and her love of literature.

A big thank you to Olive for coming to visit us.

Green Flag Ceremony, 17th May 2018

We proudly received our first Green Flag for ‘Litter and Waste Reduction’ at an awards ceremony in City North Hotel in Gormanstown, Co. Meath on Thursday 17th May.

Three pupils from the Green School’s Committee (Siobhán, Sarah and Laura) along with principal Mrs Maguire, attended the ceremony to collect the award and represented our school wonderfully.

‘Every Child is an Artist’ June 2018

A big thank you to Seanie Cassidy, local artist and father of Fintan, who worked with the pupils in all classes on an art project based around the theme of positive words and phrases.
The finished masterpieces were displayed in Ballinamore Library during the summer before being taken down and brought to Cavan General Hospital where they have been displayed permanently.
Thank you again Seanie for giving the children the opportunity to work on this enjoyable project.

Boys’ football

Our boys’ football team competed in the Cumann na mBunscol football league over the past few weeks.  We played three matches against Corlurgan, Crosskeys and Tunnyduff.  The boys played some lovely football and there was some great footballing talent on show!

The highlight was certainly the first match against Corlurgan, where after a tough battle, our boys came out on top.  It was our first victory at our new pitch at the school!  Well done to all the boys that took part.

Cheerios Breakfast Morning, 27th October 2017

As part of the Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week, our pupils took part in a breakfast morning today.  They all enjoyed eating their breakfast together in school as well as raising money for Childline.  Check out the slideshow below!

Florence Court Trip, 19th October 2017

Picture

The pupils in Mrs Doherty’s Classroom dressed up in their Halloween costumes and attended the Halloween Ball in Florence Court House last Thursday.

They learned all about how the Florence Court servants would have celebrated Halloween and the end of the harvest long ago, through craft activities, story and dance.  They got a further insight into the work of the servants by visiting the laundry, kitchen, ironing room etc.

They also took part in an outdoor trail and discovered the seasonal changes that are taking place.

Everyone had a great time as you can see from the photos below.
