St. Brigid’s Day 2016

On St. Brigid’s Day pupils from all classes learned about the life of Saint Brigid and the traditions associated with this Saint.
Some pupils learned the steps of making Saint Brigid crosses using rushes.
Check out the photos below!

Non-Uniform Day

Our Green Schools Committee organised a non-uniform day on 17th February.  Pupils were asked to wear their favourite Team Jersey and make a small donation towards upgrading our school garden.  As you can see from the photos below it was a fun and colourful day!

World Book Day 2016

World Book Day 2016 was celebrated with a Book Swap!
On the 3rd March children were invited to donate a book they no longer wanted and exchange it for a different book during our book swap.
The event was hugely successful and there was a real buzz of excitement as children browsed the selection of books that were on offer and shared their new books with children and teachers.
We hope you are enjoying reading your new books!
Each child also received a book token which they can use at our School Book Fair coming next week.

Fire Safety Talk

A special thank you to David Rogers who visited Mrs Boyle’s Class on Monday 7th March to talk to the pupils about fire safety.  The children had to complete a Home Safety Fire Assessment teaching the whole family what to do in the event of a fire in the home.  Thank you, David.

Static Fun

There were some ‘hair-raising’ moments in Mrs Boyle’s Class on Tuesday 8th March when the children were learning about static electricity!

View some photos of the children during their experiment.

First Confession

Congratulations to the following pupils who made their First Confession on Wednesday 9th March – Colm Brady, Joey McKiernan, Siobhan Maguire, Darragh Leech, Lauren Brady, Caolán McAveety, Finn Brady, Aoibhinn McCaffrey, Thomas Gilbride, Conor Fahy and Fintan Cassidy.

Proclamation Day 2016

Picture

After months of researching and learning all about the events of 1916 we finally came to the day on Tuesday 15th March when we had our special Easter Rising Celebrations and Raising of our Irish Flag.

During the ceremony, some of the children in 4th, 5th and 6th Classes dressed up as the seven signatories and two of the many influential women involved in The Rising.  Pupils in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Classes remembered the children who lost their lives, by placing a flower with each child’s name and age on it, on a display board.  The Junior and Senior Infants pupils explained the symbolism of the tricolour and gave some interesting facts about our National Flag.

The Proclamation of 1916 was read aloud and then Brian O’Neill, 6th Class pupil, read a new proclamation composed by the pupils in his classroom, reflecting the values, ideas and aspirations of the generation of 2016.

Each classroom made a large 3D construction of some of the key buildings which were involved during The Rising.  These, along with other displays of the pupils work could be viewed in the General Purpose Room in our school.

There was music, song and dance while all the time remembering and reflecting with pride the historical events in our country’s history.

The ceremony was drawn to a close when we all gathered on the front lawn where The National Flag was raised in glorious sunshine.  James Fahy from 6th Class, the oldest pupil in our school had the privilege of raising the flag while Amhrán na bhFiann was sung enthusiastically by all present.

Special thanks to Isabel for the photos and video clips and to Aoife Boyle for the beautiful harp music which really added to our ceremony.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along and made this a momentous day in our country’s history.
