Welcome to St. Aidan’s National School, Bawnboy, Co. Cavan

As we begin the 2025/26 school year, we are delighted to welcome Ms. Quirke to our staff. We are also thrilled to have ten wonderful Junior Infants starting their journey with us, bringing our enrolment to 78 pupils.

St. Aidan’s is a school where every person is a valued member of a happy, vibrant learning community. Tá gach dalta, tuismitheoir agus múinteoir lárnach i bpobal foghlama bríomhar agus cairdiúil anseo i Scoil Náisiúnta Aodáin.

In St. Aidan’s, we aim to provide a well-structured, caring and positive learning environment with plenty of fun and adventure along the way. Our highly dedicated and creative staff work hard to foster the holistic development of our pupils, supporting them to grow in confidence, curiosity and kindness.

We are hugely supported by our parent body, who constantly work in partnership with us, and our website highlights the many events and activities taking place across the school year.

I would like to wish each of our students the very best for the year ahead. There will inevitably be challenges, but with the right support we hope every child will flourish and enjoy a happy, successful school year.

Tá súil agam go mbainfidh sibh taitneamh as ár suíomh gréasáin agus go bhfeicfidh sibh bríomhar, dearfach agus spraíúil scoil anseo i mBunbhó.

Le gach dea-ghuí,
James Rudden

Jersey Day & Waste Free Day

As part of the Green Schools’ Initiative the committee held a Jersey Day to raise money for a wormery. This coincided with their Waste Free Day, where everyone was encouraged (even the teachers!) to find a way to produce zero waste.

Science is Fun!

As part of the Science Curriculum, children made rain gauges and designed their own boats. They had great fun checking the rain gauge daily and testing the seaworthiness of their creations!

Tour of The Local Glass Plant

As part of SESE, pupils from 2nd – 4th Class visited the Glass Factory. We saw the journey of glass from the raw material of sand to the finished product. It was a wonderful opportunity to see the manufacture of glass bottles first-hand. Thanks to Fiachra, Michelle & Jim for arranging a wonderful educational trip.

Grandparents’ Day

As part of Catholic Schools’ Week, we hosted another special Grandparents’ Day. Thanks to all the grandparents who made this a special day in our school.

Easter Bonnet Fun

Our pupils had great fun designing Easter bonnets this week. Check out the photos and slideshow below from our milliners of the future!

Camogie Blitz

Our 5th & 6th Class girls travelled to Lacken on Tuesday last to compete in the Cumann na mBunscol camogie blitz. The girls gave it their all and the level of skill on show was very impressive! They played three games and had a great victory in the final match. The girls really enjoyed their day. Well done to all who took part.

Fred the Magician!

On The 15th April, Fred the Party Professor entertained the pupils with magic, juggling and playing his many instruments. We think he said that he could play 32 instruments! You can see from the photos that he had the children’s undivided attention. Thank you Fred!

Green Schools’ Initiative

The Green Schools’ Committee had a busy start to the summer term finalising all their initiatives for litter and waste. The compost was rotting nicely (Pong!!!) so now was the time to plant the seeds and use the compost as a rich fertiliser. Our little seeds had sprouted nicely and were ready to be transplanted into our school garden. The pupils, guided by the Green Schools’ Committee, had a busy afternoon planting their little seedlings. Strawberries! Lettuce! Rocket! Potatoes! We can’t wait until they’re ready to eat. Yummy!
