Water Safety Talk

On Tuesday 2nd May an instructor from The Irish Water Safety Association visited our school.  She gave a detailed powerpoint presentation on the importance of keeping safe in and near water.

Blue Star Programme

As part of the Blue Star Programme, which is a primary school initiative that aims to foster better knowledge and understanding of the European Union, we hosted a Europe Day on Monday 8th May.

It was an opportunity for the pupils to showcase projects they had completed and European songs and dances they had learned.

Laila’s dad, Stefan, spoke to the children about growing up in France and how it differs to Ireland.

We were honoured that Marian Harkin, MEP, was able to accept our invitation to talk to the children, staff and parents about her life as a MEP.  Also in attendance were Brendan Smith, TD for Cavan/Monaghan and local County Councillors, Seán Smith, Peter McVitty and Damien Brady.

Afterwards everyone got to sample a wide variety of European dishes which the parents and children had prepared.

To mark the very special visit of a MEP to our school, Kevin and Fintan Cassidy presented Marian with a mural entitled “Buttons and Bows” commemorating the 40 children who died in the 1916 Rising.   The mural was designed and produced by their dad, Seanie Cassidy, who kindly donated it to mark her visit.

What a memorable day!

Dogs Trust Visit, 7th February 2018

We had a special visitor call to our school on Wednesday 7th February to teach us all about Dogs Trust (Dog Welfare Charity).

Magic the Dog and his owner Paul who works for Dogs Trust taught us how to be a responsible dog owner and how to stay safe around dogs.

We really enjoyed the visit.  Check out the slideshow of photos below.

Christmas Concert, 19th December 2017

Food Dudes

Picture

Our pupils are currently taking part in the Food Dudes Healthy Eating Programme.  The aim of the programme is to encourage children to eat and enjoy a healthy amount of fruit and vegetables.

Each day, for 16 days, children are given a portion of fruit and vegetables and are rewarded with small prizes for successfully eating them.

After the 16 days it is hoped that children will continue to take their own fruit and veg to school in their specially provided Food Dude lunchboxes.  Classroom wall charts will be used to record progress and children will receive Food Dudes Certificates and further rewards upon reaching goals.

Take a look at some of our pupils tasting and eating some nice juicy fruit and vegetables.

Santa and the Present Pirates

Our students went to see a Christmas pantomime ‘Santa and the Present Pirates’ in the Garage Theatre in Monaghan town. There was great suspense while we waited to see if Christmas would be hijacked by the meddling pirates!
