Senior End of Year Trip, 6th June 2017

On 6th June, 2nd – 6th Class headed off to Shannon River Adventure.  A fun, action-packed day was planned and the weather did not dampen the pupils’ enthusiasm and determination.

Please read Kate’s review below:

“This year we went to Shannon River Adventure Centre (BEST SCHOOL TRIP YET!)  We did archery, rock climbing, team games, obstacle course, kayaking, mud slide and jumping into the water.  My favourite was either the mudslide (which was really fun especially the end when you went flying into the mud) or jumping into the water (which was great because you don’t get a chance to jump into the Shannon every day.  I’d recommend everyone to go there.”

Junior End of Year trip, 15th June 2017

Pupils in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class went to Kidz Kingdom in Carrick-on-Shannon for their end of year trip.  Everyone had a great time as you can see from the photos below.

Science Workshop, 19th June 2017

As part of Junior Achievement Ireland Ms Patricia Shannon visited our school to do a Science Workshop with Fifth and Sixth Class pupils.  They looked at the human skeleton and solved a crim using paper chromatography.  They also looked at mirror writing and made a periscope.

Blue Star flag, 20th June 2017

We were over the moon to receive our Blue Star Flag and Certificate today.

It marks the culmination of a very successful year’s whole-school initiative, based around the Blue Star Programme, which is aimed at fostering a sense of ‘what it means to be European.’

Well done to all!  We will proudly fly our Blue Star Flag!

Big Red Bus, 20th June 2017

A happy end to a happy year on an exciting, colourful and interactive big red bus!

Road Safety Talk

Pupils in all classes received a very informative talk from Emma Clerkin, RSA Officer when she visited our school on Tuesday 12th January.  She talked to the pupils about  road safety, in particular how the children could keep themselves safe when travelling to and from school.  She spoke to the children about the importance of wearing seatbelts in cars and buses, making themselves as visible as possible when walking and cycling and wearing a helmet correctly when cycling.  She also explained to the younger children how important it was to hold an adults hand when walking along and crossing the road.

Chocolate Apples

Thanks to the pupils from St. Mogue’s College, Bawnboy who surprised us with delicious, chocolate apples which they made as part of their fundraising activities for the year. Yummy!

Science Week

“A week to inspire young people to take an interest in science and technology and to promote the relevance of science in our everyday lives.”

As part of Science Week, pupils from 5th and 6th class attended a science workshop in the Marble Arch Geopark. Pupils had an opportunity to participate in different experiments eg. making fossils, volcanoes, caves, meteorites and earthquakes.

Whilst back in the classroom, Mrs. West and Mrs. Boyle conducted a series of fun science experiments with their pupils.

We hope these activities have inspired our own Einsteins!
