Welcome To St. Aidan’s National School Bawnboy Co. Cavan

On behalf of our pupils and staff I would like to welcome you to our school website. St. Aidan’s National School is a co-educational Catholic School with a current enrolment of 72 wonderful pupils!

St. Aidan’s is a school where every person is a valued member of a happy, vibrant learning community.

In St. Aidan’s we aim to provide a well-structured, caring and positive learning environment with plenty of fun and adventure along the way!

We hope our school is a welcoming place and we ask parents/guardians to communicate directly with us if they have any concerns or worries that need to be addressed.  As a staff, we feel hugely supported by our parent body, who constantly work in partnership with us.

Our website will highlight the many events and activities taking place in our school. With a highly dedicated and creative staff the holistic development of our talented and committed pupils is always fostered.

St. Aidan’s N.S. has a very supportive parent body and our school prides itself on the team element of pupils, parents and staff working together.

By browsing through our website, you will see that St. Aidan’s N.S. is a diverse, positive and industrious school environment.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish each of our students the very best for the year 23/24 ahead – there will inevitably be some bumps along the way but hopefully, with support, each child will overcome any challenges and have a happy and successful year in school.

Tá súil agam go mbainfidh sibh taitneamh as.

Best wishes,
James Rudden
Principal

All pupils have enjoyed taking part in Dance Class with fitness instructor Michelle Fanning every Friday for the last five weeks. Michelle taught us all sorts of cool moves. Fitness is fun!

Love is in the Air, 10th February 2015

Picture

Today we held a whole-school assembly to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. Love was in the air and we all gathered together to give thanks for the wonderful gift of love, the love of family, the love of friends and the love of God our Father. We were delighted that Fr. Phair and Sr. Anna, our Diocesan Religious Examiner could join us for this special service too.

Our pupils were very happy with the snowfall last night. Here they are enjoying break time this morning! It was great to see all the pupils working together to make an igloo! Team work rocks in St. Aidan’s!

Christmas Fun, 18th December 2014

Picture

We are enjoying lots Christmas Activities here in St Aidan’s during the run up to Christmas. We have been busy writing letters to Santa, making Christmas decorations, singing songs, reciting poems and of course learning about the real meaning of Christmas. Now we are looking forward to a well-deserved break. Merry Christmas everyone!

Look at some of our pupils wearing their lovely Christmas jumpers on the last day of school before the holidays.

Swimming Success, 12th December 2014

Picture

We had a group of pupils from St. Aidan’s travel to Cavan Swimming Pool today to take part in a Swimming Gala. Everyone did their best and did the school proud. The following pupils got medals: Lauren Brady, Ethan Edwards, Patrick Leech, Aoife Maguire, Siobhán Maguire, Dallán McKenna, Néamh McGovern and Seán McGovern.

Pictured are Siobhán and Lauren from 1st class with their medals. Well done to you all!

Halloween Ball, 24th October 2014

Picture

The boys and girls in Mrs Doherty’s classroom dressed up in their Halloween costumes and attended the Halloween Ball in Florence Court House today. They learned all about how the Florence Court servants would have celebrated Halloween and the end of the harvest, through art activities, story and dance. They also took part in an outdoor trail and discovered the seasonal changes that are taking place. Just before we returned to school the children enjoyed some time in the adventure play area. The new rope swing was a firm favourite with pupils and teacher! Everyone had a great time as you can see from the happy faces in these photos.

P.J. Dolan Visits, 20th October 2014

Picture

It was a huge pleasure for 2nd and 3rd Class when P.J. Dolan (Sarah and Brian O’Neill’s Granddad) called to tell the children all about Newgrange where he used to work. P.J. explained exactly how Neolithic men built the passage chamber in 3200 B.C. and all about the winter solstice. It was a very interesting talk.
Thank you P.J.

Maths Week Ireland 2014, 23rd October 2014

Picture

The pupils in St. Aidan’s National School have been taking part in Maths Week Ireland 2014 this week. Maths Week Ireland is an all-Ireland celebration of maths and promotes awareness, appreciation and understanding of maths through fun events and activities. To celebrate Maths Week in our school all classes have been engaging in maths games, quizzes, board games and maths online activities.

They also took part in a Maths Trail organised by Mrs Maguire which incorporated all the different strands of the Maths Curriculum. As always it was great to see the older children helping out the younger ones!

Look at our photos.
