We love Pancake Tuesday, 17th February 2015

Picture

Today the children learnt about the history of Shrove Tuesday, what ingredients are used to make a pancake and the junior children listened to the story of ‘The Enormous Pancake’.  The children’s favourite part was of course eating the pancakes with sugar and lemon or Nutella. Nutella was the most popular topping for both pupils and teachers!

Let’s Dance, 13th February 2015

Picture

All pupils have enjoyed taking part in Dance Class with fitness instructor Michelle Fanning every Friday for the last five weeks.  Michelle taught us all sorts of cool moves.  Fitness is fun!

Love is in the Air, 10th February 2015

Picture

Today we held a whole-school assembly to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day.  Love was in the air and we all gathered together to give thanks for the wonderful gift of love, the love of family, the love of friends and the love of God our Father.  We were delighted that Fr. Phair and Sr. Anna, our Diocesan Religious Examiner could join us for this special service too.

Our pupils were very happy with the snowfall last night.  Here they are enjoying break time this morning!  It was great to see all the pupils working together to make an igloo!  Team work rocks in St. Aidan’s!

Christmas Fun, 18th December 2014

Picture

We are enjoying lots Christmas Activities here in St Aidan’s during the run up to Christmas.  We have been busy writing letters to Santa, making Christmas decorations, singing songs, reciting poems and of course learning about the real meaning of Christmas.  Now we are looking forward to a well-deserved break.  Merry Christmas everyone!

Look at some of our pupils wearing their lovely Christmas jumpers on the last day of school before the holidays.

Swimming Success, 12th December 2014

We had a group of pupils from St. Aidan’s travel to Cavan Swimming Pool today to take part in a Swimming Gala.  Everyone did their best and did the school proud.  The following pupils got medals: Lauren Brady, Ethan Edwards, Patrick Leech, Aoife Maguire, Siobhán Maguire, Dallán McKenna, Néamh McGovern and Seán McGovern.

Pictured are Siobhán and Lauren from 1st class with their medals. Well done to you all!

Halloween Ball, 24th October 2014

Picture

The boys and girls in Mrs Doherty’s classroom dressed up in their Halloween costumes and attended the Halloween Ball in Florence Court House today.  They learned all about how the Florence Court servants would have celebrated Halloween and the end of the harvest, through art activities, story and dance.  They also took part in an outdoor trail and discovered the seasonal changes that are taking place.  Just before we returned to school the children enjoyed some time in the adventure play area.  The new rope swing was a firm favourite with pupils and teacher!  Everyone had a great time as you can see from the happy faces in these photos.

Maths Week Ireland 2014, 23rd October 2014

Picture

The pupils in St. Aidan’s National School have been taking part in Maths Week Ireland 2014 this week.  Maths Week Ireland is an all-Ireland celebration of maths and promotes awareness, appreciation and understanding of maths through fun events and activities.  To celebrate Maths Week in our school all classes have been engaging in maths games, quizzes, board games and maths online activities.

They also took part in a Maths Trail organised by Mrs Maguire which incorporated all the different strands of the Maths Curriculum.  As always it was great to see the older children helping out the younger ones!
