St. Aidan’s N.S. Camogie Team competed in a Camogie Blitz in Ballyconnell organised by Fr. Oliver. Scoil Naomh Bríd, Ballyconnell, St. Mogue’s, Currin and St. Aidan’s, Bawnboy enjoyed playing against each other, putting their camogie skills into practice!

We are delighted to announce that we have recently been awarded the Active School Flag!

This flag is awarded to schools that increase physical activity, physical education and partnerships with local and national sporting organisations.

We are so proud of this wonderful achievement and the flag now flies pride of place outside our school.

Our boys team competed in the Cumann na mBunscol Hurling Blitz in Lacken on Thursday 13th June. After two hard battles, we lost out to Kill and Bruskey in the first two games. The boys rallied and put in a great performance to beat East Knockbride in the third match. They put on a great show of the hurling skills that they have been practising during the year. Keep it up lads!

Well done to all our pupils who recently took part in the Food Dudes Healthy Eating Programme. The aim of the programme is to encourage children to eat and enjoy a healthy amount of fruit and vegetables.

Each day, for 16 days, children were given a portion of fruit and vegetables and were rewarded with small prizes for successfully eating them.

It is now hoped that children will continue to bring their own fruit and veg to school in their specially provided Food Dude lunchbox. Classroom wall charts will be used to record progress and children will receive Food Dudes Certificates and further rewards upon reaching goals.

We celebrated World Book Day with lots of fun events. Check out the photos below of the older pupils helping the younger pupils with their reading.

Pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th Classes recently participated in the one-day River Explorers Programme which is funded by Waterways Ireland.

The morning consisted of class based activities where the pupils learned about ‘leaving no trace’ and animals, birds and insects that are native to Ireland.

The afternoon session comprised of identifying leaves and plants close to the canal in Ballyconnell, followed by an examination of a water sample from the canal, where they got to identify different water borne insects.
