Today we enjoyed a very active Sports Day in St. Aidan's N.S.  This year we were lucky to have Francis and Philip spend the morning with us doing orienteering activities.  In the afternoon the pupils participated in a variety of races.  Thank you to last years 6th Class pupils who came back to help us.  A fun day was had by all.  Check out the photo gallery below to see some photos from the day.

Junior School Trip, 15th June 2015

15/6/2015

What a brilliant day was had by the boys and girls in Mrs Doherty's Classroom today on their end of year school trip.

First stop was Johnny Rocko's Adventure Centre in Irvinestown where the children had great fun bowling, go-karting and playing in the soft adventure area, followed by a yummy lunch in the Diner.

Then it was off to Tickety Moo Farm where we were brought on a guided tour of the robotic milkers and viewing gallery to see the lovely Jersey Cows being milked.  It was very interesting to learn about how the cows are milked 24/7 'at their convenience' by the robotic machines.  We also got to see some new born calves and lambs on the front lawn.  After letting off more steam on the bouncy castles we got to taste their homemade Tickety Moo ice-cream with lots of flavours to choose from!

The weather was perfect, the bus trip was fun and thank you to Mrs Bogue and Mrs McHugh for coming with us.  We think they enjoyed it too!

Check out the photos in our gallery.

A big 'thank you' to Chris McCaffrey from the local Templeport GAA Club who has been coaching the pupils in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class each Wednesday morning for the past couple of months.  The pupils thoroughly enjoyed having Chris train them and he did a great job developing their ball handling skills and coordination.  Chris is pictured below with the pupils.

Get on Your Bike!  Tuesday 9th June 2015

14/6/2015

National Bike Week 2015 will take place from 13th to 21st June.  To coincide with this and as part of raising awareness and increasing road safety, the pupils in 5th/6th Classes took part in 'Bikeability' Training Level 1 this afternoon.

All pupils were encouraged to wear helmets and taught the importance of signalling and taking care on the road.  They also had a slow bike race and had to cycle through cones and practise an emergency stop.

The training was organised by Cavan Sports Partnership and supported by Cavan County Council.

Senior End of Year school Trip, 2nd June 2015

10/6/2015

It proved to be another successful action-packed trip when 2nd to 6th Classes opted to return to Corralea Activity Centre in Belcoo.  There was lots to do from climbing, orienteering, archery and many water sports.

Here are some children's comments about their day:

"I loved the kayaking.  I wasn't afraid even though we went out far."  (George Plunkett)

"The team leaders were very kind and helpful.  We learned a lot from them."  (Niamh Baugh)

"The highlight for me was the orienteering because it was fun running through the forest."  (Ethan Edwards)

"My favourite thing was the water trampoline and slide.  It was good craic going down the slide and jumping off the trampoline into the water."  (Néamh McGovern)
